Complete the Onboarding Wizard
The onboarding wizard runs automatically the first time you activate the SEOvault AI plugin. It takes you through seven steps to configure your SEO mode, site identity, homepage settings, import options, and web app connection. The whole process takes about five minutes.
You can skip the wizard at any time and return later. Skipping marks onboarding as complete so the wizard does not appear again automatically.
Start the wizard
Section titled “Start the wizard”The wizard appears automatically after activation. If you skipped it or want to re-run it:
- Go to SEOvault AI > Onboarding in the WordPress admin sidebar.
- The wizard starts from your last saved step if you previously started but did not finish.
The seven steps
Section titled “The seven steps”Step 1: Welcome
Section titled “Step 1: Welcome”The welcome screen introduces the plugin and explains the structured data (schema) approach. SEOvault AI automatically generates basic schema from your site identity rather than asking you to select every schema type upfront. Extra schema types like FAQ, Event, or Product are added later on individual posts, blocks, or templates.
Click Start setup to continue.
Step 2: SEO Mode
Section titled “Step 2: SEO Mode”Choose how you want SEOvault AI to work:
- Auto – let the plugin configure your homepage meta, robots rules, sitemap, and automatic schema using your site identity. This is the recommended option for most sites.
- Manual – skip the auto defaults and configure everything yourself in the plugin settings. Best for advanced users who want full control from the start.
You can change this later at General Settings > Output Mode. The mode you choose here affects how the next steps pre-fill values.
Click Next to continue.
Step 3: Site Identity
Section titled “Step 3: Site Identity”Tell the plugin about your site so it can generate correct schema and social previews:
- Site type – select from Blog / News, Business / Corporate, Online shop / E-commerce, Portfolio / Personal, or Other
- Publisher identity – choose Organization or Person. This determines whether the plugin generates Organization or Person schema as the base publisher type
- Name – your site or organization name. Pre-filled from your WordPress site title
- Logo – upload or choose a logo from the media library. Used in schema and social previews
- Default social image – upload or choose an image. Used as the fallback Open Graph image when a post does not have its own
If you chose Manual mode in step 2, this step is optional. You can click Set up later to skip it.

Step 4: SEO Settings
Section titled “Step 4: SEO Settings”Review and confirm your homepage and template settings:
- Homepage title – the SEO title for your homepage. In Auto mode, this is pre-filled from your site name
- Homepage meta description – a short description of your site (max 160 characters). In Auto mode, pre-filled from your WordPress tagline
- Output mode – choose Full SEO output (recommended), Title only, or No output (advanced). This controls what the plugin prints to the frontend
- Default social title template – template for social sharing titles. Uses variables like
%title%,%sitename%,%sep% - Default social description template – template for social descriptions. Uses variables like
%excerpt%,%description% - Robots defaults – three checkboxes:
- No-index empty taxonomies – prevents indexing of tag and category archives with no posts
- Nofollow external links – adds
rel="nofollow"to outbound links - Open external links in a new tab – adds
target="_blank"to outbound links
In Auto mode, these fields are pre-configured. Review them and adjust if needed. In Manual mode, they start from your existing plugin settings or defaults.
Click Next to continue.
Step 5: Import
Section titled “Step 5: Import”If the wizard detects an active SEO plugin (Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, Slim SEO, or The SEO Framework), it offers to import your SEO data:
- If one plugin is detected, it is selected automatically
- If multiple plugins are detected, choose which one to import from
- If no supported plugin is detected, the step says “No supported SEO plugins detected” and you can skip it
The wizard import brings in global settings like homepage title and description. You can run a full post-by-post import later from General Settings > Tools.
Click Import now to import, or Skip import to continue without importing.
Step 6: Connect
Section titled “Step 6: Connect”Optionally connect your WordPress site to the SEOvault AI web app. This step displays:
- Your site key – a 40-character key used for authentication. Copy this to enter in the web app
- REST endpoint – the verification URL (
yoursite.com/wp-json/seovaultai/v1/verify) - What you get by connecting – AI content suggestions, bulk title/description updates, advanced analytics and reports
Click Connect now to open the web app in a new tab, or I’ll connect later to skip.
The plugin is fully functional without the web app connection. Connecting is optional and adds AI-powered features through the web app dashboard.
Click Next to continue.
Step 7: Finish
Section titled “Step 7: Finish”The finish screen shows a summary of your configuration:
- SEO mode (Auto or Manual)
- Site identity (Completed or Skipped)
- SEO settings (Saved)
- Import (Completed, Skipped, or Not needed)
- Connection (Connected, Skipped, or Not connected)
Click Go to Dashboard to finish and view the SEOvault AI dashboard.
Skip the wizard
Section titled “Skip the wizard”If you prefer to configure everything manually:
- On any step before the finish screen, click Skip onboarding at the bottom left.
- The wizard marks itself as complete and redirects you to the dashboard.
- All settings remain at their defaults. You can configure everything from SEOvault AI > General Settings.
Skipping is safe. The plugin uses sensible defaults: Automatic output mode, schema enabled, Open Graph enabled, sitemap enabled.
Re-run the wizard
Section titled “Re-run the wizard”To restart the wizard from the beginning:
- Go to SEOvault AI > Onboarding.
- The wizard resumes from your last saved step. To start over, use the Back button to return to step 1.
There is no “reset wizard” button. The wizard saves your progress as you go, so you can leave and return without losing your place.
What the wizard configures behind the scenes
Section titled “What the wizard configures behind the scenes”When you complete the wizard, the following happens:
- Output mode is saved to plugin options
- Site identity (name, logo, social image, entity type) is stored for schema generation
- Homepage title and description are saved
- Social templates are saved for use across posts
- Robots defaults (noindex empty taxonomies, nofollow external, new tab external) are applied
- Import (if selected) runs the migration from the detected plugin
- Connection (if completed) verifies the site key with the web app
- Onboarding completion flag is set so the wizard does not auto-redirect again
All of these settings can be changed later from General Settings.
